In the middle of the first quarter of Monday Night Football, Buffalo safety Damar Hamlin collapsed after making a tackle against Cincinnati. Hamlin finished the duel, stood up for a few moments, and fell to the grass. Medical attention attended to Hamlin immediately, without a quick injury designation being given as a result. The game was temporarily stopped at 5:58 in the first quarter.
After tackling Tee Higgins, Hamlin’s head hit the turf in what appeared to be a routine tackle. Bills and Bengals players quickly surrounded 24-year-old Hamlin with an ambulance that was driven onto the field to better assist medical staff. The ABC show mentioned that Hamlin needed oxygen as he was loaded onto the ambulance on a stretcher after CPR. After the ambulance left the field, the Bills prayed as a team with several players including Josh Allen and Stefon Diggs, who were clearly affected by the events and looked devastated.
After such a traumatic event, the question remains how both teams can get back on the pitch and play a game that thrives on physical contact, especially with little detail on Hamlin’s condition.
