Imran Khan speaks publicly for the first time since surviving the gunfire

1 min read

Pakistan’s former Prime Minister Imran Khan has made his first public speech since he was shot dead during a protest march in the eastern city of Wazirabad.

Mr Khan was in a wheelchair at a hospital in Lahore and said he would not have survived the shooting if the two gunmen he saw had “synchronized” their attack.

“Because I fell, one of the shooters thought I had died and left,” he said.

Last month, Pakistan’s Electoral Commission disqualified Mr Khan from holding public office in a case the former star cricketer described as politically motivated.

In a video confession released by police, a man accused of shooting him said the former cricketer “misled” people and that he “wanted to kill” him for it. The conditions under which the confession was made are unclear.
